I took a shower with a Dutch man this morning…

Don’t worry. He was wearing shorts. Well, really he was on a video on my iPad. Today I started the Wim Hof method challenge- 10 days of gradual cold exposure, breathing to prime to body, and mindset training to connect with the body. These are the 3 pillars of the Wim Hof method. Who is win Hof? Known as the Iceman, he hold 26 world records for various feats that most would consider … [Read more...]

“Start from yourself and work outward.”

5 am- that’s when my alarm goes off. Do I get up when the alarm goes off every time? No. In fact, up until about a week ago I had been on the dangerous verge of allowing the snooze button to be my best friend. There were a couple of weeks where I let the routine slip and pulled the comforter over a little bit tighter instead of stepping into the day. But the days that I wake up for … [Read more...]

“Well, I’m going to give this a try…”

Just about everyone has said this at some point in their life. But the implication with that mindset is that I’m going to give up when it gets hard. Or, if I fail too many times at it, at least I gave it a shot. It’s ok to move on... We are on day 6 of 28 of the Story Athlete GRIT challenge. Yes, there is a workout to do every day. Extrinsic vs. intrinsic

About 5 weeks ago Tracy and I decided it was time for Eli to learn some responsibilities and do some small chores around the house. Namely picking up after himself. Tracy brought up the idea to make a sticker chart as a reward for doing certain tasks each day. I thought that was a good idea to. So, we promptly got on amazon and ordered stickers. As the next few weeks went by we started … [Read more...]

October GRIT Challenge

I started the Story Athlete GRIT challenge this week. I had a conversation last week with Tracy right after I committed. It went something like this: Me: “I accepted another challenge.” Tracy: “Oh really? What are you going to do this time?” Me: “I don’t know... Ryan won’t tell us. All I know is we have to commit. Are you in? Or, are you out? He asked...” Tracy: “So you have no … [Read more...]

Quantum

Consider this... I remember making a model of an atom in science class when I was in 7th grade. It was pretty straightforward. You have a nucleus made up of protons and neutrons with electrons that orbit around it. The model looked something like the picture shown. But now we have the idea of quantum... And I feel like an old fart. How could we have missed out on so much? … [Read more...]

Burpee immunity. It’s not about the burpees…

Yesterday was the final day of the 100 burpee challenge with Story Athletes. 26 committed to the challenge and all 26 finished yesterday. There were no age limits (some were over 60)... No weight restrictions (not everyone was already in shape)... No prerequisites (most had never done more than 10 burpees in their life)... But we all showed up and did 100 burpees every every day for 30 … [Read more...]
