What keeps you moving?

Over the last 75 days, I have done some kind of physical activity every day except for one. One day... It was November 1st. The day after October GRIT challenge. Instead of moving, I spent the day suffering from a sugar hangover from eating too much of Eli’s Halloween candy the night before. (Don’t worry, he had pleny of his own candy.) The next day, my body was moving pretty slow. And … [Read more...]

“Croochy”

In StoryAthlete FUEL, we’re asked to rate on a scale of 1 to 10, how disciplined are you in watching what you put into your body as a means to optimize your energy levels?... I would honestly have to say 3, max. I eat a good amount of protein and don’t over eat anymore. But I can’t say that I use food to “optimize my energy levels.” And while I want to say that I don’t eat that bad... The … [Read more...]

“More than showing up.”

Story Athlete November GRIT is underway! I love the first week of GRIT challenge. Every day a new workout is posted and the anticipation of not knowing the torture we will all face is exciting. It’s a test of Will. Will you show up? Will you push yourself? Will you give it everything you’ve got? Or will you let the voice of the lesser self in? That voice that tells you to give up or … [Read more...]

I took a shower with a Dutch man this morning…

Don’t worry. He was wearing shorts. Well, really he was on a video on my iPad. Today I started the Wim Hof method challenge- 10 days of gradual cold exposure, breathing to prime to body, and mindset training to connect with the body. These are the 3 pillars of the Wim Hof method. Who is win Hof? Known as the Iceman, he hold 26 world records for various feats that most would consider … [Read more...]

October GRIT Challenge

I started the Story Athlete GRIT challenge this week. I had a conversation last week with Tracy right after I committed. It went something like this: Me: “I accepted another challenge.” Tracy: “Oh really? What are you going to do this time?” Me: “I don’t know... Ryan won’t tell us. All I know is we have to commit. Are you in? Or, are you out? He asked...” Tracy: “So you have no … [Read more...]

Burpee immunity. It’s not about the burpees…

Yesterday was the final day of the 100 burpee challenge with Story Athletes. 26 committed to the challenge and all 26 finished yesterday. There were no age limits (some were over 60)... No weight restrictions (not everyone was already in shape)... No prerequisites (most had never done more than 10 burpees in their life)... But we all showed up and did 100 burpees every every day for 30 … [Read more...]

Failure is progress.

Last week I went to Zilker Park to do some pull-ups on the public bars. My intention was to make a progress video. I’m 60 days into a 90-day personal challenge to be able to do 20 consecutive pull-ups. I was pumped and feeling confident that I could squeeze out a new person record of 16. No such luck though… In fact, the most I could muster that day was 9. It was a real blow to my … [Read more...]
